A Gentleman’s Narrative by Meredith Macleod is an artist book that references Torvald Helmer in Henrik Ibsen’s play A Doll’s House (1879). Is Torvald (the villain) a victim of his blatant hypocrisy towards others, or, is he a trite and moralistic reflection of the narrow minded, patriarchal society in which he lived?
